HVALFJORDUR
Whale Valley
- Synopsis
- There were these two brothers living with their parents on a lone farm in a barren Icelandic fjord landscape. They depend on each other if they want to survive in their bleak and wintry surroundings. Only rarely something exciting happens, like a whale stranding on the shore. The brothers’ lives are founded on their love for each other, a foundation which is about to crumble when the older one, about 15 or 16 years old, begins to despair of his life. A film about love and responsibility, both depressing and empathetic.

- Synopsis
- Fuchser, Jojo und Balla are at home in Rostock’s concrete housing blocks and fans of FC Hansa, a local football club. They’ve been going through thick and thin together for all their youth. They end up being driven by speechless hate and aggression. Fuchser manages to break away from his violent father, Jojo narrowly survives a knife stabbing. Balla, however, has been terminately ill for a while and doesn’t know what to do with himself, his hatred and his life. He asks his friends for one last favour. If they accept, they won’t be the same. A story about the end of youth, told in sharply contrasting pictures.
